War, guns, concentration camps, Jews, why does this all fit together? Well, here’s what had been happening all over Europe.
Adolf Hitler and his army of German soldiers apparently didn’t like people of different religion other than he was. I don’t know why they didn’t, but they did. Hitler sent out soldiers all over the continent of Europe to rid out all of the all of the Jewish people in the countries. Denmark, Poland, Belgium, France, Norway, and many more countries in Europe were all under the power of Hitler and Hitler’s army. A group called the Resistance tried with all their power to stop Hitler and his army, but they were no match for their strength and power of his army. They still sent out secret, illegal newspapers to the people to tell the people in the countries what exactly is happening, and they helped the Jews escape to Sweden, or someplace near that country that wasn’t under the power of Hitler. If Hitler, or anyone under Hitler’s army found someone that was in the Resistance, they would capture them and shoot them in public to threaten anyone who dared to help the Jews and anyone else who was trying to escape. If one of Hitler’s soldiers saw someone Jewish, they would report them to Hitler, and memorize their name and their face, and get ready to capture them.
Then, on one night in 1940, Hitler sent out SS Guards, special killing groups, to round up all the Jews, and throw them all in concentration camps. Hitler didn’t do it himself because he was afraid he would be seen by someone, and shot to his death. The first concentration was established on March 22, 1933, two months after the Nazis gained control over most of the countries in Europe.
People thought that Hitler shouldn’t be doing that. They thought that it was wrong to do that, so scientists discovered a way to put a powdery chemical on a white hankerchief and give to fisherman that wanted to transport the Jews, or other people in danger of being captured. The powder had a mixture of rabbit’s blood, to attract the dogs, and cocaine to numb the dogs noses long enough to let the escapees escape to someplace safe. The fisherman would hide the escapees in a secret room on the boat, and when the Nazis soldiers came with their dogs to trap the escapees, the dogs would sniff the hankerchief, and the Jews would escape to another country without being detected.
The Holocaust lasted from 1933-1945, 12 years. Finally, in 1945, the Red Army stopped the Nazis army. Hitler didn’t want to be caught, so he shot his wife, and then himself through the right temple. To be sure he died, when he shot himself, he set of a capsule. In all, about 526 Africans, 200 Albanians, 65,000 Austrians, 387 Belgiums, 277,000 Czechoslovakians, 77 Danish, 4,000 Estonians, 83,000 French, 160,000 Germans, 71,301 Greece, 305,000 Hungarians, 8,000 Italians, 85,000 Latvians, 135,000 Lithuanians, 700 Luxembourg, 106,000 Netherlands, 728 Norwiegians, 3,001,000 Polish,364,632, Romanians, 1,500,000 Soviet Unions, and 67,122 Yugoslavians were killed, that means about 5,933,900, 63%, of the population in Europe was killed.
