A beautiful James Avery pearl ring is my most prized possession. It is a size 6 and I wear it on the ring finger of my right hand. The band is made of shiny silver and the single pearl is placed delicately between to scrolls on either side of the ring. The pearl itself has a creamy color and radiates from any light that touches it.
I received this gorgeous ring from my parents on my sixteenth birthday. While shopping in the North Park Mall in Dallas, my mom asked me and my twin sister, Makenzie, if we’d like to look at pearl rings for my sister-in-law’s Christmas present at James Avery. Completely oblivious to her true intentions, my sister and I spent the next half hour looking at all the rings lined in the display cases. Being the close twins we are, Makenzie and I both agreed on the same ring for Cayla, our sister-in-law, and waited outside with my dad while my mom bought the ring.
Later that night, our parents treated us to a fancy dinner at the restaurant 560 by Wolf Gang Puck in the Reunion Tower. Caught up in the beautiful scenery of the city skyline surrounding me, I was unaware of the two small bags hiding in my mother’s purse.
We had a nice evening filled with delicious foods, laughter, and family bonding. With our bellies filled to the brim, my mother brought up the topic about her most prized possession, a pearl ring she had inherited from her mother. Then, she pulled the two delicately wrapped bags from her purse and handed one to both my sister and I. Surprised, we removed the tissue paper and opened the tiny orange box to reveal the beautiful pearl ring we had just hours before picked out for who we thought to be was Cayla. Overwhelmed by its beauty and the generosity of my parents, I embraced each one in a tight hug and thanked them for both the ring and the best birthday I could possibly imagine. It was truly a night that I will remember forever.
The reason this ring has such a significant value to me is that it reminds me of the continual love and support my parents have for me despite the choices I have and will make in life.
Just like pearls are a timeless fashion, so is their love for me, and wearing it makes me feel closer to them.
